Rosenheim-based start-up offers electronic receivers for digital toll processing for private customers - Valid in Italy, France, Spain and Portugal

Rosenheim, March 1st 2021. The start-up maut1 GmbH is launching an electronic receiver on the market in spring 2021. The toll box is attached to the windscreen with a holder next to the interior mirror by means of a bracket. If you drive up to a toll station with it, the barrier opens automatically and the toll is subsequently billed once a month by maut1.de via the deposited means of payment. The best thing about it is that there are lanes reserved for toll box users, where there is usually no traffic jam and the traffic moves much faster than on the regular lanes, where you have to pay by credit card or cash. This saves time and nerves!

maut1 is the first provider to offer private customers a toll box for several countries. It will work at the start at toll stations in Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. Croatia will follow in July 2023. A second model is in preparation for large motor homes weighing over 3.5 tonnes, which can then also be used in Austria.

Julian Schmelzer and Simon Baumgartner founded the start-up maut1 GmbH in Rosenheim (Upper Bavaria) in December 2020, right at the height of the Corona crisis. Their vision: "The toll boxes of maut1 GmbH should simplify toll processing in other European countries." How did the two of them come up with this founding idea? The answer is simple: "Who hasn't experienced it? The sun is shining, it's more than 30 degrees in the shade and the air is shimmering above the asphalt. Standing in a traffic jam is anything but nice," the two describe. The founders, Schmelzer and Baumgartner, had this experience several times as children on the way to their holiday in Italy, at the toll station in the middle of summer. After both had worked together in the toll industry by chance, they came up with the idea for maut1. "Because the traffic jam at the toll station is not only annoying, but also causes unnecessary emissions on top of that, which can be reduced." With their new product, they manage to do both.
