The toll charges for French motorways, which are set out in a contract with the French government, are adjusted annually on 1 February on the basis of the relevant inflation rate at the time.
The increase varies between the five different motorway operators in France, with Vinci Autoroutes increasing the toll by 2.7%, Sanef by 2.79%, SAPN by 3.08%, APRR by 3.02% and Area by 3,04 %.
The biggest change in tariffs concerns the Millau Viaduct, a 2460 metre long cable-stayed bridge over the River Tarn: tariffs will rise by 5.56% until the summer and by 5.83% during the rest of the year.
Some of the shortest motorway sections will see the biggest increases: a 5.41% rise for the A150 between Rouen and Le Havre, a 4.77% rise for the A86 in Ile-de-France and a 3.32% rise for the Mont Blanc Tunnel.
Further examples of toll charges for travellers:
A journey to Metz between the Saint-Avold and Metz toll stations now costs ten cents more. The cost of a return journey to Metz is 9.60 euros.
Travelling to Strasbourg, Reims or Paris will also become more expensive. Anyone travelling from Saarland to the French capital via the motorway will now pay 33.50 euros instead of the previous 32.90 euros.
